NEW STUDENT INFORMATION


Welcome to Pierce College!

We are happy that you have chosen Pierce to begin your education. We look forward to working with you over the coming years to assist you in reaching your education and career goals. To get started, pick which option best describes you and scroll down to view the steps to follow:

  • New to College
  • New to Pierce with previous coursework from outside of the LACCD
  • Previously attended a campus in the LACCD or returning to Pierce

Students New to College

If you have never taken college courses, follow the steps below to get started at Pierce College and register for classes.

1. Apply Online

You will need to provide personal information such as your address, phone number, social security number and educational goal.

Once you apply, you will receive a LACCD email address. All communication from Pierce College will be sent to your LACCD email address. For information on how to access your Pierce College email and/or how to forward this email to your personal email address, click HERE.

Approximately 15 working/business days after you submit your application, you will receive an email with your Pierce College Student ID number. You will need this number to access campus services such as assessment, counseling and health services.

2. Apply for Financial Aid

Visit the Financial Aid website for information and application documents: http://www.piercecollege.edu/offices/financial_aid/

3. Complete ONLINE ORIENTATION (accessed through your student portal)

You must complete the entire orientation in order to be eligible to register.

4. Take your English and Math Placement (or Assessment) Exams (ESL Only)

Due to AB 705 only ESL exams are being offered. Students who graduated from high school within the previous 10 years should receive an automatic placement. You can access your placements in your student portal. If you do not have a placement or have graduated more than 10 years ago, you will need to work with a counselor on the guided self-placement.

5. Attend a New Student Group Session

New Student Group Sessions are offered in the afternoons and on Saturdays. Groups last approximately 90 minutes. During the New Student Group Session, you will get all the information you need to start your academic career right, including information on Majors, classes to take and how to plan your schedule. You will also create an initial student educational plan.

You MUST bring your assessment results with you to the New Student Group.

Students New to Pierce College with Previous Coursework outside of LACCD

If you have previously attended a College outside of the Los Angeles Community College District, please follow the steps below to get started at Pierce College.

1. Apply Online

You will need to provide personal information such as your address, phone number, social security number and educational goal.

Once you apply, you will receive an LACCD email address. All communication from Pierce College will be sent to your LACCD email address. For information on how to access your Pierce College email and/or how to forward this email to your personal email address, click HERE.

Approximately 2 BUSINESS/WORKING days after you submit your application, you will receive an email with your Pierce College Student ID number. You will need this number to access campus services such as assessment, counseling, and health services.

2.Apply for Financial Aid

3.Complete ONLINE ORIENTATION (accessed through your student portal)

4. Clear any pre-requisites (including English and Math classes)

If you passed an English or Math class at a college outside of the LACCD, please bring a transcript (official or unofficial) to the counseling office. A counselor will evaluate your transcript and clear you for the next level of English and Math at Pierce College. A counselor can also clear any other pre-requisite courses you may have taken outside of the LACCD.

5. Make an appointment with a Counselor

Bring your official or unofficial transcripts and meet with a counselor for a transcript evaluation. A counselor will evaluate your transcripts and tell you what courses you have left towards meeting your academic goal. Your counselor will assist you in creating a Student Educational Plan that is right for you. Be sure to bring transcripts of all colleges you attended.

6. Send official transcripts

You must send official transcripts from all schools you have attended directly from the institution to the Pierce College Admissions and Records Office.

Previously enrolled LACCD Students

If you previously attended Pierce College, or one of our sister campuses in the LACCD, but have not attended for more than 2 consecutive semesters, please follow the steps below to restart your education at Pierce.

3. Make an appointment with a Counselor

A counselor can assist you with getting back on track to meet your educational goal. Be sure to bring transcripts from any colleges outside of LACCD that you have attended since your time at Pierce College.
