Pierce College Promise Program

The Promise Program is a combination of financial and support services to help first-time, college students be successful in their first two years of college. The program is for California Residents/AB540 eligible, first-time college students, that have never attended college (excluding Dual/Concurrent enrollment, Special Admit).

Los Angeles College Promise: Creating a City of Graduates

The Los Angeles College Promise will increase the number of community college graduates, university transfer and workforce-ready students throughout our region. It is a partnership between Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD), the City of Los Angeles, L.A. Chamber of Commerce, UNITE LA and private philanthropy.

To qualify for Promise

  • Be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED or HiSET).
  • Complete the Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) Application 
  • After receiving your LAPC student number, complete the Los Angeles College Promise Interest Form.
  • Complete O.A.C.:
    • Orientation: Log in to your Student Portal, select "Student Status", select "Orientation". Complete all sections
    • Assessment: Log in to your Student Portal, select "Student Status", and select "Placement Result". If there are no assessment results posted, please speak with a Counselor online.
    • Counseling: Sign up for an appointment to complete your first-semester education plan
  • Complete an application for financial aid, either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act.
  • Complete a Summer transition activity.
  • Enroll as a full-time student in Fall & Spring (minimum 12 units each term).

After becoming an L.A. Pierce College Promise student, you must complete the following:

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA
  • Maintain full-time status both Fall & Spring (minimum 12 units each term):
  • Activities to complete each year:
    • Meet with an academic counselor at least once per year.
    • Participate in two Student Engagement activities or attend a workshop, once per semester.
    • Meet with your L.A. College Promise Peer Mentor at least once per semester.
    • Meet with your Promise success coach once per semester. 

Note: Promise does not cover Summer or Winter tuition.

To qualify:

  • Complete (in good standing) the first year of Promise.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA.
  • Complete 24 units (12 units for the Fall and Spring semester) with a grade of "C" or better (Special Services and CAFYES units vary), before Fall.
  • Complete an application for financial aid, either the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act.
  • Enroll as a full-time student in Fall & Spring  (minimum 12 units each term).
