Child Abuse Reporting
Penal Code section 11166 et seq. requires all child care custodians, including administrators, teachers and counselors to report cases of suspected child abuse. Failure to report suspected child abuse is a misdemeanor, however, no child care custodian who reports a known or suspected instance of child abuse shall be civilly or criminally liable for any report required or authorized by the Penal Code. Please refer to Child Abuse Neglect and Reporting Act for a full description of reporting requirements.
Equal Employment Opportunity
It is the policy of Los Angeles Pierce College (LAPC) to provide employment, training, compensation levels, transfer and promotion opportunities and other terms and conditions of employment without regard to sex, race, religion, national origin, physical disability or veteran status.
When we are hiring or promoting in those categories in which women, minorities, persons with disabilities, or veterans are underutilized, we will broaden our outreach efforts to all groups in the community so that all members have equal employment opportunities and will continue to seek out qualified applicants without regard to their status.
The Office of College Compliance assists with the recruitment of faculty, the training of selection committee members, and the monitoring of the hiring process for compliance with non-discrimination policies.
At LAPC, all terms and conditions of employment, are and will continue to be, on the basis of the individuals' qualifications and ability to perform the job.
Sexual Assault
LAPC is committed to providing a safe environment for its students, faculty, and staff. The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Board of Trustees condemns any act of sexual assault committed on any of its facilities. In the event of sexual assault committed on grounds or in facilities maintained and/or used by the District, any victim of sexual assault who is one of the District students, faculty, staff, or visitors shall promptly receive appropriate treatment and full and accurate information. Individuals who commit sexual assault while on properties within the control of the District shall be subject to appropriate criminal prosecution and/or District disciplinary procedures.
Confidentiality is fundamental to all aspects of cases dealing with sexual assault. The names of sexual assault victims shall not be revealed be persons responsible for implementing and enforcing the provisions of this Chapter, except with the consent of the victim. Victims of sexual assault may obtain a list of referrals to community agencies from the campus police office.
Other Remedies
Complainants not satisfied with the disposition of their discrimination or sexual harassment complaint on the campus may contact the United States Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, the Americans' Civil Liberties Union, or file a private lawsuit.
