Academic Renewal allows up to a maximum of 30 units of coursework taken within the LACCD for which a substandard grade (D/F) was received to be removed from a student's grade point average calculation if the policy requirements are met. Students can meet with a Counselor in Express Counseling to review their academic record to determine eligibility.

Request to change your major and/or home college to LAPC by completing the Major/Home College Form online. 

Successful completion of coursework at a United States regionally accredited institution may be used in lieu of course repetition to alleviate a substandard grade (D/F) for an equivalent course taken at LAPC. Complete the Petition to Alleviate a Substandard Grade with Non-LACCD Coursework Form. Students can meet with a counselor in Express Counseling to review their academic record to determine eligibility.

Upon completion of a repeated course for which a previous substandard grade was received (D/F), a student should complete a Request for Review of Student Record Form and submit it directly to the Welcome Center. The highest grade earned will be computed in the cumulative grade point average and will also be annotated on the student’s academic record.

Fall and Spring Semesters: 

Students may take up to 19 semester units during the fall/spring semesters.

If students wish to enroll in more units, please complete the Unit Overload Petition and see a counselor in Express Counseling. The counselor will review the students’ academic record and determine if the student qualifies to take additional units. Please obtain a permission number from the instructor if the course/s to be added has already started.

Summer and Winter Intersessions: 

Students may take up to 9 semester units during the winter/summer intersessions.

If students wish to take up to 11 semester units, students do not need counselor approval and should complete the Summer or Winter Over Units Enrollment Form and submit the form directly to the Welcome Center.

If students wish to take 12 units or more, students must see a counselor first. The counselor will review the students’ academic record and determine if the student qualifies to take additional units. Students need to complete the Unit Overload Petition and see a counselor in Express Counseling.
