Pierce College Student Publications Earn National First-Place Awards
The Roundup newspaper and The Bull Magazine both earned first-place honors from the American Scholastic Press Association, highlighting the excellence of student journalism at Pierce. The Bull Magazine’s award-winning issue explored automotive culture, while The Roundup impressed judges with its comprehensive reporting and design.
Pierce College’s Dr. Gaga to Perform at the Oscars
Music professor Dr. Garineh Avakian—better known as Dr. Gaga—will take center stage at the 2025 Academy Awards, performing with the Los Angeles Master Chorale on Sunday, March 2. Tune in on ABC-7 at 4 p.m. A first-roster singer since 2015, she regularly performs at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Earlier this year, 200 Pierce students attended one of her performances in support of their beloved professor.
Pierce College Breaks Ground on Academic West Building
Pierce College celebrated a major milestone on February 21, 2025, with the groundbreaking of the Academic West Building. The 34,900-square-foot facility will feature cutting-edge classrooms, collaborative spaces, and a new radio station to enhance arts, media, and social sciences education. The event brought together LACCD leaders, faculty, students, and local representatives to mark the occasion.
