Big Progress on Pierce Child Development Academic Facility Construction

January 30, 2025

By Communications Office

The new 11,200-square-foot, state-of-the-art Pierce Child Development Academic Facility (CDAF) is taking shape as construction is officially past the halfway mark. Since breaking ground in April, the building’s framing is now complete, windows are installed, and the roofing system—including the exterior hallway roof—is done.

The CDAF promises an incredible space for students in the Child Development and Early Childhood Education Program. It will feature classroom labs with direct views of the outdoor play area—giving students hands-on training in real-world settings. Outside, shaded teaching spaces and nature-focused learning areas will provide even more ways to engage with early childhood education.

The project involves sustainable practices including achieving 100% electrification and Zero Net Energy, supported by 3,200 square feet of solar panels generating 60 KW of power—offsetting the building’s energy needs. Features such as high-efficiency windows and shade canopies will reduce heat gain and a rain garden with bio-retention areas will improve stormwater management.

Completion is set for 2026 but stay tuned for more updates as we move closer to opening the doors of this academic space that fosters learning, innovation, and professional development in early childhood education.
